Description
Lead pencil and India ink wash on paper depicting the residence of Franklin B. Crouch beyond a partial view of Tuttle's Mill, comments penciled beneath sketch and letter composed on verso offering to paint a full version of the sketch for the estate's owner. Foreground depicts grassy or marshy land with a stream of water emitting from a culvert under a stone bridge; road looping horizontally across the foreground leading to a partially visible millhouse in the right corner, horse pulling cart with man standing nearby in front of mill, man fishing beyond the road in a large body of water. Midground to the right shows more of the body of water; to the left shows wooded sections of a hillside and an impressive second empire residence positioned in a clearing to the back, carriage house located to the left of the residence; clusters of trees border the far left side of the midground. Background to right side reveals a three-car train traveling towards the left side, sky above loosely illustrated with the outlines of low-lying clouds.
