The largest sail and steam ship on far left is the "City of New York", several figures visible on top deck, to center right a steam-powered tugboat called "Republic" tows a three-masted sailing ship behind it. Additional smaller sailboats visible scattered in the background, bouy in center left foreground bobs in blue-green choppy water, unidentified lighthouse visible to far left in background, several hills visible on far side of water in background. Cloudy sky above painted in white, tan, and grey pigments.
