Foreground shows thin strip of fields tilled to varying degrees, bounded horizontally by split rail fence, treeline, and a dirt road beyond; two carriages traveling from right to left on the road. Midground displays Gardiner's landholdings spreading out beyond the other side of the road; residence located right of center in a yard bounded by white fencing and filled with shrubbery and ornamental planting, orchards fill the fields on the far right, further cultivated fields and plots of farmland depicted in the background on the right side; main barnyard and farm structures located in the center of the midground and feature vignettes of workers moving hay and tending to animals; smaller planted plots of positioned in front of the farmyard; additional orchard located to the far left with small story-and-a-half farmhouse next to the dirt road; cultivated plots of land stretch back behind the orchard and extend to the horizon line located two thirds of the way up the paper.
