Watercolor, India ink, and gouache on beige paper depicting the Brown Brothers Pottery as it faced the waterfront. Foreground of rippling water painted in blue, green, and white; man in rowboat with woman holding parasol; small white sailboat, sails furled, moored in the water off the wharf; two-masted schooner moored to wharf in front of pottery building, three men loading ceramicware and tending to the rigging. Far left of midground, edge of the water bounded by stone wall and shrubbery, Carrie E. Brown house and homestead beyond with outbuilding; pottery manufactory to the right consisting of several main interconnected buildings and adjacent structures; two smokestacks produce light smoke and dark smoke, American flag flies prominently; "Brown Brothers Pottery." stenciled on sign across the top of far building; cords of wood stacked around workyard, one man moving wheelbarrow, one man carrying pottery on flat board, one man moving pots to exterior scaffolding, man loading pots onto two horse cart with single driver; dirt road partially visible beneath horizon line, one-horse cart with single driver moving along at a distance; background wooded and brushily paints, possible areas of inpaint that date after Lange, sky mottled blue with darker areas and clouds with white hue. Artwork bordered with silver pigment (possibly later addition), surrounded by painted stenciling detailing the Brown Brothers Pottery, location, and founding dates (paper torn and notable dates not visible).
