Right foreground shows two front yards with decorative planting and white picket fence borders abutting a dirt road that runs obliquely from the right midground to left foreground, two-horse, red, closed coach labeled "Huntington. L.I." traveling along the road to the left carrying several passengers; center left foreground beyond road depicts marshy flatlands, far left foreground shows a three-way intersection with grassy center median. Midground contains the harbor stretching horizontally across the paper; far left side depicts a tidal mill with wharf and several moored boats to its right, several structures clustered along the shoreline, prominent residence perched atop a hill beyond; watery center midground contains several sloops and a schooner in the distance; midground to the right depicts several residences on the near bank of the harbor, several additional residences or structures scattered along the opposite bank and further back on a hill. Background consists of brushily painted, wooded hillsides, center background extends further back to show a view of the far distant shoreline of the harbor, several structures visible and painted without a great deal of detail; sky above tinged greyish-blue with white highlighted indication of clustered clouds in the center. Bordered with thin black line and labeled beneath "View of Huntington Harbor from the Residence of John R. Scudder".
