Watercolor and gouache on brown paper, reverse of painting is a piece of white wallpaper with blue cartouches featuring gilt ornamental design inside each, painting is either directly on the back of the wallpaper or on a thin sheet of paper applied to the thicker wallpaper used as backing; painting depicts a view of the farm and homestead of the Longbothum family. Foreground shows dirt road running horizontally across the paper, two-horse carriage with single driver traveling from left to right, approaching an intersection where a dirt drive extends perpendicularly to the background. The midground focuses on the poperties located on the other side of the road, on the far right a two-and-a-half story farmhouse with front porch sits in a grassy yard planted with saplings and surrounded by brown split rail fencing; poultry wander in the yard and larger trees line the property on the other side of the fence; gray barns and farmyard outbuildings cluster on the left side with a copse of trees in the center, towards the front of the midground on the left side a kitchen garden with white picket fencing is planted with rows and patches of produce, to its left several cows graze in a small orchard. Background shows the tops of rolling hills in the distance, scattered white clouds in the light blue sky above.
