Description
Watercolor and gouache on paper showing a view of Cold Spring Harbor from the front lawn of the residence called Harbor View. Grassy lawn in the foreground with ornamental plantings, two trees stand beside one another and extend nearly all the way to the top of the paper; lawn bounded by picket-fenced road extending towards the background and to the right, meeting in an intersection at far right. Midground shows a single sailboat navigating the waters of the harbor, shrubs and trees planted in clusters along the shoreline to the far left and far right; sandy peninsula beyond creating a median between two bodies of the harbor's water. Background presents a view of the outer harbor, sloops and schooners traveling the waters and along the coastlines, view extends out into the Long Island Sound; forested, hilly shores to either side meet with a light blue sky featuring several clouds with a blue-white hue; sky gains deeper blue color as it rises along the paper.
