Description
An account of the resource
Watercolor and gouache on white paper depicting a portrait of the sloop Evelyn. Foreground of the picture largely inhabited by the main subject of the painting, choppy waves ripple around a gaff-rigged sloop moored in a harbor by a front line with a rowboat positioned in tow; sloop nameplate along transom reads "Evelyn"; American flag with stars encircling anchor flying from rigging above the stern; two men visible on board, one holding a shotgun near the stern and one stepping up from the hatch leading into the cabin. Midground and background consist of water extending to the back and bounded on each side by glimpses of shoreline with visible trees; two sailboats in the far distance traveling along the water; grey sky above with central set of towering white clouds. Painted en grisaille.
