Description
An account of the resource
Albumen print on thin paper showing several scenes of Port Jefferson, titled "California Grove Port Jefferson, L.I." after Lange's rendition of the resort in the center image of the composite collage. Central image shows beach to right side populated by swimmers, pedestrians, and several horse and carriages clustered around bathing houses and the restaurant pavilion of California Grove; forested area inland behind the resort. Center and left of image show the waterfront, with a wharf extending into the harbor, trafficked by small sailboats and steamboats; large steamboat docked alongside wharf with passengers boarding or disembarking. Background shows dozens of vessels moored at far end of the harbor. Three smaller images along bottom, damaged by tears in the paper, significant fading present. Central image along bottom titled "Steamboat Nonowantuc. Capt. C.E. Tooker", presumably the steamboat docked in the central image above. Bottom right image titled "The Trip Across the Sound" and shows steamboat traveling towards the foreground surrounded by a number of sailboats. Bottom left image titled "Old Field Point" and shows collection of buildings along a road across from a field. Print heavily damaged overall, mounted on original cardboard backing.

Description
An account of the resource
Albumen print on thin paper of a painting depicting a view north across Centerport Harbor with numbered buildings throughout, most if not all of which were boarding houses with room for certain numbers of guests. Wooded foreground beyond which a road travels horizontally across the paper; two or three residences and associated outbuildings beyond the road lining the bank of the harbor; to far left side the road intersects perpendicularly with a rod traveling due north; carriage traveling south through the intersection; several residences and boarding houses located along the corners of the intersection. Midground looks out into the harbor towards small boats moving across the water, shores on either side lined with residential properties and spotted with ornamental and naturally occurring trees throughout. Tidal mill at the far end of Mill Pond visible in the background, beyond which the harbor and hills fade to the hroizon line; some clouds in sky above. Text written along bottom acts as a key for the numbered structures, only some legible "N1 The Centreport Hotel N2 The Free Bay Cottage…[most of the lettering in white is too washed out in the photograph to read]".

Watercolor and gouache on brown paper with a view looking north with Centerport Harbor in the distance. Foreground depicts dirt road curving throughout the left side and rounding out to extend horizontally across the center of the painting to the far right side; water of Mill Pond beyond the road, upon which a small sailboat travels toward the far right side of the picture; horse with single rider grazing on small tufts of grass at the water's edge; man with fishing pole walking away from the viewer along dirt road to left side. Midground to far left shows red barn next to white two-and-a-half story house bounded by picket fence, single trees variously located along the property; adjacent to small intersection of dirt road, beyond which is located a small wharf with docked sailboat; further to right is yellow tidal mill and connected buildings with single-cart cart and driver hauling cargo of white bags along the road towards the right, single man standing along the road outside the mill buildings; path continues towards the right with single-horse cart traveling towards the left on its far right side; moored sailboat in harbor beyond. Background shows panoramic view of the opposite bank (west shore) of Centerport Harbor; various white residential and outbuilding structures scattered throughout forested hillside, one larger yellow structure located in center; view of the water fades back and to the left to meet the horizon line; white clouds populate the light blue sky above.

Description
An account of the resource
Watercolor and gouache on beige paper depicting a view of Setauket Harbor. Foreground of picture consists of grassy shoreline; dirt road curving across the bottom left corner and through an opening in a split rail fence; to far right a man and woman with parasol sit on a bench overlooking the water; small coniferous and deciduous trees loosely line the bank of the harbor. Midground depicts the harbor spreading horizontally across the paper, small watercraft spread across the water, single gaff-rigged sloop occupies most of the center space. Background shows far shore of the harbor scattered with trees and structures on grassy rolling hills; hillside to the right side is closer, water of the harbor disappears around its left peninsula to continue on out of sight; center of background appears to depict a proper harborfront with multiple moored boats of various sizes; sky above is tinged with a light blue-purple and highlighted with white clouds and orange pigment.
