Edward Lange, Greenlawn & Centreport, 1880, Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association

Choo! Choo! All aboard!

Edward Lange painted at least five scenes of Long Island Railroad depots up and down the North Shore in the 1880s, including those at Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington, Patchogue, Northport, and Greenlawn-Centerport. The characters in this scene make up one of Lange's most expressive groupings of people. Oftentimes, he included figures just for scale or to fill out a scene, neglecting to paint them with much detail. Can you see the little faces drawn onto the group standing on the platform?

Head north on Broadway to the Harborfields Public Library, where several more of Lange's paintings of this area hang in the office of the Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association!
